Sam Houston State University Admissions
Applications to the undergraduate programs are accepted through August 1 for the fall semester, with an application fee of $35. In addition to the application form and fee, students must provide test scores and high school transcript. applications can be submitted on-line.
Students are evaluated based on a combination of their class rank and their ACT or SAT score. Students who are in the top 10% of their graduating class do not need to meet any minimum score on standardized tests. Students who are in the bottom fourth of their graduating class must have a minimum ACT score of 25 or SAT score of 1140.
Graduate students must provide the following for admissions to the graduate school: application and fee, transcripts, test scores as required by the graduate program, and any other documents required by the individual graduate program. A graduate application has an application fee of $20.
Undergraduate admissions requirements include graduation from an accredited high school and either ACT or SAT scores. For applicants who graduated in the top 10% of their high school class, there is no minimum ACT or SAT score for admissions. Depending on the applicant’s class rank, ACT minimum score requirements may range from 17 (top 11% to 25%) to 25 (fourth quartile), and SAT minimum score requirements may range from 850 (top 11% to 25%) to 1140 (fourth quartile). For those students who do not meet the minimum admissions requirements, Sam Houston State offers the Personal Review of Educational Potential (PREP) program, which assesses potential academic success for individual applicants.
